The truth: one, none, a hundred thousand - October 1, 2025 - Maximum Theater

To be truly grasped and understood, truth is a concept that should always be declined in the plural. In certain contexts, its inherent mutability is a problem faced by various professionals. One thorny issue concerns Justice. Without going as far as miscarriages of justice, citizens constantly question the outcomes of criminal proceedings that appear incomprehensible to the public or parts of it. Magistrates and lawyers are the professional figures called upon to piece together the puzzle of trial judgment, journalists who also do not participate in this action play the difficult role of narrators and interpreters of the facts on which criminal proceedings must shed light. On Oct. 1, 2025 at the Massimo Theater, trial truth will be observed through a kaleidoscope of interventions/testimonies that will break down its complexity with the aim of stimulating reflections on how to foster a deeper understanding of the facts and to reflect on the new difficulties introduced at different times by increasingly restrictive laws on the right/duty to report the news. The meeting will be enriched by a contribution of a historical nature and a reading of the immense theme of truth that great artists have represented through their works.

Moderated by journalist Maddalena Brunetti, speakers will include magistrate Marco Cocco, lawyer Valeria Aresti and neuroscientist Micaela Morelli each known for the relevance of their work in their respective fields and for their contribution to the book Le Verità edited by the Giulia Giornaliste Sardegna association. Next, journalist Daniela Scano will illustrate the myriad implications of the work of the court reporter engaged in bringing to the public the so-called Fourth Truth and the obstacles introduced by the new gag laws, Greek scholar Morena Deriu will report on the difficult position of women in the trials of the Athenian courts, and art historian Caterina Ghisu will bring the representations of truth in painting from different centuries.
