The knight without honor

In his new historical novel entitled "The Knight Without Honor" (Arkadia, 2023), Nicolò Migheli transports us to Sardinia in the last decades of the 17th century, a period marked by the decadence of the Spanish Empire, accentuated by the rule of King Charles II and his ministers. Against this backdrop of political crisis and devastation caused by the plague, the events focus on Juan Domingo Meloni, a quadrillero born into a wealthy family but who has become the leader of a band of brigands infesting the central area of the island.

Juan Domingo, with his mysterious charm and the protection of the clergy, moves nimbly through the clashes between the noble factions, pursuing his own interests and trying to avoid becoming involved in the struggles that bloodied Sardinia of the period. Although respected and feared, the protagonist is not immune from the memory of his crimes, his turbulent past and favors obtained at a high price, and the ferocity with which he achieved his goals.

Migheli paints a compelling fresco of a cruel and amoral historical period, following the events of a historical figure at a crucial time for the destinies of the island and Europe. "The Knight Without Honor" stands as a fast-paced novel, capable of drawing the reader into a turbulent and fascinating era through a compelling narrative rich in historical detail.
