I was also on that train

Giovanni Rinaldi's "I was on that train, too" (Edizioni Solferino, 2021) tells the true story of the children who united Italy and won the Benedetto Croce national prize for journalistic literature. In fact, Giovanni Rinaldi has been engaged for years in reconstructing a particular piece of Italy's history, that of the "children's trains" that brought children from very poor families in the south, who had no chance of supporting them, to live temporarily with families in northern Italy of equal social status (often therefore workers) who were in any case willing to share everything they owned in order to offer these children with no certain future a real hope of life. Giovanni Rinaldi has been collecting these stories for over 20 years: starting from his homeland, the Tavoliere delle Puglie, he has traveled to every region of Italy talking to many former children about the "trains of happiness" from which a film was also made.
